VALLEY CITY, OH — Rugby may be what brings the Brunswick Valkyries together, but this weekend proved that the Valkyries know how to bring the energy off the pitch, too.
From Friday, August 14 through Sunday, August 16, the Valley City Street Fair filled the community with games, food, live music, and plenty of summer fun. And once again, the Valkyries were right in the middle of it.
The Street Fair delivered everything you could ask for from a summer weekend. Local food vendors kept everyone fueled, games kept the competition alive, and live music kept the crowd moving well into the evening. And yes, there were adult beverages available for the adults who wanted to enjoy one along the way.
For the Valkyries, the weekend was about more than just enjoying the festivities. It was another opportunity to connect with the community and raise funds through their annual raffle ticket sales.
Judging by the crowds and the number of tickets moving throughout the weekend, the Valkyries once again had a successful run.
But the competition wasn't limited to rugby.
At some point during the weekend, some Valkyries decided that tackling opponents wasn't enough.
It was time to tackle a watermelon.
The annual Watermelon Eating Contest brought out plenty of competitors and plenty of spectators, and one of Brunswick's own put together a strong performance, finishing in second place.
Not quite a championship.
Still, we're willing to call it a podium finish.
And we're pretty sure there was significantly less tackling involved.
As Sunday rolled around, the final day of the fair brought one last big moment.
The Valkyries raffle drawing.
After three days of ticket sales, community conversations, games, food, music, and fun, it was time to find out who would be taking home the cash.
And the prizes were certainly worth waiting for:
🥇 1st Place — $2,000
🥈 2nd Place — $1,000
🥉 3rd Place — $500
One by one, the winning tickets were drawn, bringing the 2026 Valley City Street Fair to a close.
The Street Fair may be over, but the Valkyries are walking away with another successful year of fundraising, a second-place watermelon trophy, and three days filled with memories and community spirit.
The Valkyries would like to thank everyone who stopped by, bought a raffle ticket, supported the team, enjoyed the fair, and helped make another Valley City Street Fair one to remember.
From the rugby pitch to the festival grounds, the Valkyries continue to prove that being part of the team means being part of the community.
